Magic Reserves, Wednesday Afternoon, Preserve Near The Cabins [Nov. 11th, 2009|09:44 am]

Snacks today were the pure sugar variety - bowls full of leftover Halloween candy and a cooler full of sodas.  Tony stood at the front looking a little tired, a little beaten up and a little smug.  "Now we know vegetables aren't always good for us," he said.  "Today, Zack's going to talk about his magic and then we're going to do the post-battle rundown.  What worked for you yesterday?  Anything you wish you'd done differently?"

With the two--not three--leaders of the reserve, there was a falcon-y looking bird, trying to appear very cheerful about everything. And screeching occasionally to let them all know he wasfully on board with this meeting.

Yes.

Karla couldn't stop herself from shooting amused towrads Merlin, though she tried to keep her expression neutral whenever the bird glanced her way. "Just as important as your own actions, what could we as a group have done otherwise? If we'd had advanced warning, would we have done things differently? Better? We very much want to know your opinion. Non-mages should also feel free to chime in," she added. "We're here to work with everyone."

Tony nodded.  "That goes for all the time, actually.  Yeah, we're here to work on magic stuff, but we all gotta look out for each other." added. "We're here to work with everyone." He turned to Zack. "All right, you're up."

Fussing with the plants took far longer than it normally did and Ino was totally using the excuse that she had to make sure they were fine after the attack of their veggie brethren to further her own urge to fuss and coo over them.

When that was done, though, she curled up in Cable-san's chair and nibbled on a pen cap while she studied.

I'm being selfish today and throwing this one up because I missed it the first time around and a rainy, Nor'easter filled day (and a holiday for some Americans) seemed like a good day to have a geek out meme.

Reverse Questions Meme

Tag in with your characters and then people will comment asking the MUNS anything about the GAME or THEIR CHARACTERS, because we all know the muns will answer when the characters won't. They can be specific questions ("How does he feel about her?") or general questions ("Why did you choose this pup?", "How do you channel them?", etc).

Please remember to check back throughout the day for new characters so you can ask MOAR questions!

Fred had changed up the syllabus again, and this time he didn't even have the class meeting in the Danger Shop. A normal classroom was the setting, though Fred had an American flag up along the wall. A big one.

"Today is Veteran's Day. For those of you not from the goddamn best country in any universe, this is the day we honor those who have served in the military. That includes me, before any hippies try to get all anti-war in my classroom. I will give you detention."

"Now working in the military is a damn privelege and an honor. Serving your country is honorable and commendable and all that. If any of your family is a veteran, I salute them and thank them for their service."

He was getting a little teary eyed, and he stood to attention and saluted.

"I ain't gonna glamorize war, or decry it. So today's class, we're gonna watch an episode of the meta for Band of Brothers. Yeah, I know, you come here to hit things. That'll be next week. Promise."

And then Fred put on the episode of the show set in Bastogne.

He'd be over in the corner. Being manly and stoic. And not getting sniffly. Really.

Katchoo had a weird and unexplained craving for a tamale this morning -- not sure why, she'd just woken up with it. Not something frozen or from a chain restaurant, either, but the kind of tamale you bought from a street vendor at Sunset Junction, someone selling them out of a drink cooler in a parking lot on Santa Monica and Silver Lake at 2 in the morning. She hadn't had one of those since before she'd stolen Kevin Spacey's steak. Weird way to mark time, but that'd been the day she'd met Emma and after that . . .

Stupid unfulfilled craving. It made for a pensive and really quite frankly quiet Katchoo who went about the usual morning cleanup routine, then sat behind the counter drumming her pencil on the counter beside her sketchbook, staring out the window.

[OOC: I could drink a case of you and still be OCD-free. As with Gabrielle, AFKness pretty much all evening today . . .]

As she'd said she would, Gabrielle got to work writing down the story about yesterday's vegetable attack as soon as she got to the library. Or she was trying, at least; it was only a few minutes between the time she spread out the scroll of parchment and the point where she started tapping the quill against her lips and frowning in concentration.

If you were going to describe the way a rampaging field's worth of kale was coming toward you, would it be closer to a group of bandits or a Roman legion?

Hmm . . .

Remus was wearing even shabbier than usual robes today. His normal ones had been doused in aubergine juice the day prior. "Yesterday," he said tiredly, "if you left the dorms at all, you undoubtedly ran into those lovely, enormous vegetables. Now, that's -- from what I understand -- fairly typical of this island, but where we're from, those sorts of results are typical of a charm gone awry. Things don't necessarily have to have dark intentions to cause mayhem, you see."

Sirius leaned back against the desk and carefully scanned the faces of the students. "Though if you were responsible for the giant rutabagas, we won't be angry if you want to talk to us about where you might have gone a bit...awry." He was rather unhappy he hadn't thought to chase Snape through Hogwarts with giant sentient cabbages. He turned his head to look at Remus, eyes twinkling. "As an old colleague of ours is fond of saying, though, CONSTANT VIGILANCE!" He boomed those last few words with far too much vigor.

"Often," Remus added, rolling his eyes slightly. "In any instance, yesterday was so fun, we thought we might try it again." This would be when from behind the desk, Remus levitated a few cages of bewitched, slightly-enlarged fruits. "Well, not exactly. From what I'm given to understand, you need vegetables and fruit. Have fun. Use what you have on you."

Sirius smiled a bit evilly. "Shame we're not in the Danger Shop, really. No traditional weapons in the classroom."

And with that, Remus flicked his wand and opened the cages.

Still a mess from the exploding gourd (what the hell what the hell what the hell) and other plant carnage earlier, with scratches on her arms and face from being tackled by an artichoke and wincing from the related bruises on her ribcage from where she'd landed on her crossbow thanks to said artichoke, Kennedy had finally gotten back to the dorms.

The roof was a safe vantage point from which she could keep an eye out on the grounds below (yes, Kennedy, because god only knows what would happen to the island if you weren't keeping a lookout, really) while on the phone to her Watcher.

"--told me I'd get to fight things here! You said I'd get to put my training to use. You didn't say it was gonna be for food prep purposes!"

Once again, Jack woke up to an invasion and found himself fighting his way down to the dock with his handgun. He was starting to question the wisdom of stashing his big guns on the boat.

Still, he left a lot of carnage (veg-age?) behind him on his trek down, and once he emerged from the Homer's cabin with his flak vest and P90, the foliage REALLY started flying. When he blasted a rabid cucumber into pieces and it landed on the shredded remains of a head of lettuce and a slowly dripping exploded tomato, he couldn't help but chuckle. "I guess that's what you call a 'salad shooter'."

There were vegetables outside. Attack vegetables.

Vegetables which had tried to come inside the library enforce, until Anemone had calmly ripped one in half with her bare hands and started eating it in front of all the others as if she didn't have a care in the world.

Now there were vegetables peering nervously in the windows, but there were no further assaults. Possibly because she had all the vegetarian cookbooks out, and was taking diligent notes. And occasionally looking up to see what was peering in at her and giggling madly before going back work.

The Fandom High Library was open, so long as you were animal or mineral. No vegetables allowed.

There was something to be said for this island, Jonothon decided as he finally managed to make his way into town to open up the music shop today. At least it had a funny way of keeping one on one's toes.

And, granted, any day when the zucchini had more bite than he did was probably the sort of day where staying home would be a good idea, but Jono was not the sort to be easily deterred from his rightful place tending the Groovy Tunes on a Tuesday.

So what if his rightful place today just so happened to be on the roof, bandages torn and hanging down around his ankles, fending off a veritable salad mix of killer veggies that were trying to bust down the door?

And so what if it was a little cooked by the time he was finished? It wasn't as though he was going to eat it.

[Sorry so late. I was asked to stay at work late to be trained how to make salad. Salad really is dangerous! No OCD today, Groovy Tunes is open if you want to come and fend off the grapes of wrath. Or whatever.]

E-Mail sent to the Fandom High listserv [Nov. 10th, 2009|04:11 pm]

l1ttle_billy
Dear Fandom High Students and Teachers,

If you don't know who I am, feel free to disregard this message. For those of you who do know me...I don't remember who knows the truth about me and who doesn't. When I came to Fandom High I told people that my parents were dead, and that I was a ward of the state. The truth is that I was, (and am again) in witness protection, as is my mother.

My father is an international terrorist with global conquest as his goal. And I'm afraid to say that he may be about to succeed. He has taken the White House, and Buckingham Palace. The President has been taken prisoner, possibly killed, and the royal family as well. His forces are in every country it seems, gathering followers left and right, and sowing discord and chaos.

US forces are scattered around the globe, and local militaries are hard pressed. I don't know how long they can hold out.

I have to try to stop him.

I consider my time at Fandom High to be the best years of my life. The people I met there and the experiences I went through made me a better person. I hope to see you all again. But if not, I just wanted to say thank you. And good luck.

Sincerely,
William "Billy" Kessler

College Fair [Nov. 10th, 2009|03:30 pm]

fhplotterywheel

[likeababyduck]
In an effort to help guide the students of Fandom to plan for their futures, Sweets has organized a college fair for next Tuesday (November 17). It will be held in the gym, much like the club fairs and the multicultural fairs, with tables/booths set up for the different colleges.

What colleges will these be? Well, that's up to all of you! Any fictional college or real college with a fictional representation is fair game. Like Rock Con or Cop Con, this is a chance for players to bring in a one shot guest star, though this will only be for one day.

Here are some lists to give you ideas of what sort of schools would be eligible: Fictional Colleges/Universities, Fictional Military Academies, and Fictional Vocational/Trade Schools.

The characters do not necessarily need to be the administrative characters - students, teachers, really anyone who is in some way affiliated with the school can attend and try to recruit Fandom students to their institution.

As with anything, please be respectful of your fellow players. If you want to bring in someone from Starfleet Command or the Jedi Academy or Hearst College, check with the other players in those fandoms first. Alumni characters who are currently attending school are also welcome to set up a table to pimp out their schools.

Any questions go in this post. Signups go in this post!

This was almost like old times. Although granted, even in Sunnydale he'd never had to fight off giant homicidal vegetables. He just managed to fend off a trio of Brussels sprouts (he'd never like those anyway), when he turned to find he was being stalked by celery.

So far the combination of broom and dustpan had been working well as far as defensive weapons went. And any who got too close learned that good swift kicks with Doc Martens were pretty good too.

Drake had tried to reason with the vegetables at first.

"Is this because I've been focusing on fruits lately? C'mon, it's only because they're easier to master. You'll have my full attention once I'm the master of all things berries. And, you, rutabaga, you're not even an option yet! Go complain to the Farmville programmers, there's nothing I can do about it. And while you're at it, tell them I need a stable for my horses, and some sort of storage shed for all the Halloween pumpkins...."

The pumpkin to his left gibbered unhappily.

"...which I totally did not carve," Drake finished smoothly.

The pumpkin was not convinced and lunged forward, spurring his rutabaga, zucchini, cauliflower, and eggplant companions into action as well.

Drake sighed and snapped his fingers, transforming himself into a musketeer. But as he started swinging the sword to fight the angry vegetables, he realized his was a mistake. "Hey, mind the mandelion!" he said as pulp and seeds exploded from a skewered veggie. It was going to be a bitch to dry clean.

Raven was fortunate that she made it to work without incident. Professors Skywalker and Sun had mentioned vegetable-based attacks, but surely the shop would be safe from attack. Just to be safe, she only had bread and cheese for lunch.

The shop was quiet this early in the afternoon, and she was passing the time reading when she heard a noise from the back room. "Hercules?" she called. The kitten, however, was in the front of the store, having discovered some feathered items that surely had to be cat toys. Fortunately, they were on a high enough shelf that they were frustratingly out of reach. For now, at least. Cunning kitten intelligence would not be thwarted for long.

She heard a noise again. "Lady Aphrodite?" she said, getting up to move to the door. She wasn't sensing any, ahem, activities from the back room, so she didn't think the goddess was in, but she knocked nonetheless. When she received no answer, she opened up the door....

...and found the back room occupied by a huge tomato, a large carrot, and a pair of gigantic cucumbers. With long sharp teeth. Making strange gibbering noises. And radiating hunger.

Raven gasped and flung the door closed, but not before one of the cucumbers took a bite out of her arm. The gibbering vegetables began throw themselves against the door as she pressed her back against it. She couldn't just teleport out because she didn't want to leave Hercules (who hadn't realized yet that anything was amiss). But she wasn't going to be able to hold the door closed for long.
